Design Guidelines

Elements

Each design must have the following elements. Though there maybe special cases where a given element may not fit into the design, in such a case please contact the editor.

  • Logo and Name
    • Logo must not be smaller then 200px wide by 100px high.
    • Logo may be as large as your design needs it to be.
    • The correct way to reference the name is “13things”.
    • The default colors for the logo are #444444 for the text and circle on a #FFFFFF background.
  • Bylines
    • Both the author and designer must be attributed some place in the design. They should also link to the
      contributor’s bios/proļ¬les.
  • Copyright
    • The copyright or license of the authors must be displayed.
  • Issue Number
    • Issue numbers will be in based on the month and year of publication. January 2009 will be represented as: Issue
      0109. February 2009 will be: 0209. The bonus article for 2009 will be listed as 1309 no matter what month it falls
      in.
  • Links
    The article must have these links:

    • Archives
    • Contributors
    • Start/Join Conversation
    • About
  • ISSN
    • Once an ISSN is acquired it will required. It will also need to be included retroactively in previous designs.

Limitations

When making a design please keep in mind the limitations of web media.

Flash

Flash may be used however, it may only be used for non-text elements, that is only for design elements. SIFR may be
used for text replacement.

Advertisements

As part of the challenge each design must have one ad space. Ad sizes are as follows:

  • 125px x 125px
  • 120px x 90px
  • 250px x 250px
  • Others per request
